In 2005 I began a large-scale photographic diary series titled "1000-Prints". I completed print number 1000 December 29, 2008. So why am I doing this series? The short of it is--this series allows me to finally show people how I see the world. I’m in a constant state of hunting-for-treasure, I-spy-with-my-little-eye, did-you-see-what-I-just-saw? And in the process, I hope to show you the flavor of a thing or place. Where are the pictures taken? Mostly around Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. But, also a few in Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Tennessee, and Texas. Basically where ever I go during the time since I started the series. Will I stop after I finish a thousand prints? Probably not. Do I do other art work? Yup. The process of doing this work scratches a lot of itches, but not all of them. How many back-up DVDs have I burned? Over 300.
How is it done? With a digital camera, I shoot outdoors using natural light. I shoot whatever catches my eye as I go about my life. No cropping is done and no digital effects are applied. A macro lens is used exclusively so I can show extreme detail and be very selective on how much of a subject I show in each frame. This helps to abstract the subject and makes it easier for the viewer to look at the work with fresh eyes. After shooting 30-70 pictures of a subject, I go through them one at a time, viewing them on my computer. Then a group of photographs is selected and placed in a large Photoshop file. On average I create one new grid print each day. Being digital, various sizes are available.
An estimated 60,000 photos will be shot to complete the series. The goal is to complete at least 1000 grid prints and find a place to show the entire series. Can you imagine a show of 16,644 photographs arranged in 1000 grid prints all in one place? (The first 161 prints consist of 20 photos each, the remaining will consist of 16 each due to changing cameras.)
These prints work well in a variety of public and private spaces. I invite the opportunity to work with curators, architects, interior designers, gallery owners, collectors, and other art professionals to create exciting visual spaces.
This series is dedicated to Robert Rauschenberg, Kate Ericson, and Mel Ziegler.

We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.
